Fight against climate change

Climate change is one of the greatest global challenges facing society today. For Gestamp, it is also a source of great opportunities that require innovative solutions, investment, and new commitments in the short, medium, and long term.

Gestamp approaches the challenge of sustainable mobility and the decarbonization of the sector with the understanding that all agents in the value chain must be involved and must work together to establish alliances that enable the sector to achieve common and more ambitious goals.

For the decarbonization of the industry, it’s essential to focus on the development of sustainable industrial products and processes. Gestamp, from within, works to optimize industrial procedures through energy efficiency, use of clean energy and responsible waste management.

On its path to neutrality, Gestamp sets the goal of reducing Scope 2 emissions by 2030, Scope 1&2 by 2045 and reaching neutrality by 2050.

The technology and innovation office is a fundamental part of Gestamp's business, developing key projects in the field of clean technologies and promoting the company's decarbonization strategy. For this reason, Gestamp has a 2023-2025 investment objective in “clean tech” of €1,405M, which shows that it constitutes a central part of its strategy.

Contribution to the decarbonization of the vehicle throughout its useful life

Gestamp contributes to the reduction of vehicle emissions by making the pieces of the automobile lighter, leading to an increase in fuel efficiency and, therefore, a reduction in CO₂ emissions.

With a strong commitment to R&D, Gestamp analyzes the carbon footprint of components and the impact within the vehicle's life cycle.

The electrification of the automobile involves an increase in the mass of the vehicle due to the batteries. The weight affects the autonomy of the electric vehicle, and CO₂ emissions during the use phase.

Gestamp helps its clients in the challenge of electrification of the sector and its transition to the electric vehicle by offering technological solutions that increase autonomy and safety.

Energy efficiency

Gestamp is committed, from within, to reduce emissions and consumption at all the Group's production plants. In terms of energy efficiency, there is a global initiative to optimize and reduce energy consumption and enhance environmental responsibility.

Each production plant works individually and together with other plants to implement measures aimed at rationalizing its usage and ensuring that all technologies and equipment operate in the most energy-efficient way from an energy perspective.

Commitment to reducing emissions, to the environment, to optimizing equipment performance and to operational excellence drive this initiative at Gestamp.

Carbon Disclosure Project

Since 2012, Gestamp has reported annually, through CDP and on a voluntary basis, its carbon footprint, its performance in terms of climate change and the initiatives it carries out to reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with its products.
