The race for Electric Vehicles starts in Shanghai

07.05.2019

The Auto Shanghai, the world largest exhibition in the automotive sector, held its eighth edition this 2019. This is a key arena in which the main automotive manufacturers and suppliers at a global level place their bets to the public.

For a week, China becomes the epicenter of the sector, in an especially relevant edition due to the new unfolding scenario around new mobility trends and the electric vehicle. In this context marked by innovation and development, Gestamp has taken part in the Auto Shanghai for the first time, this is yet further proof of the company’s focus in the Asiatic country.

Why China?

During the past few years the Asiatic country has not only become the biggest dealership in the world –with 28 million unit sold in 2018, according to data from China Association of Automobile Manufacturers—, but also the Asian market is consolidating itself as the largest EVs manufacturer in the world. Six out of ten newly registered EVs are made in China.

In this new scenario, Gestamp makes a bid to strengthen its cooperation with the local parts components manufacturer BHAP. After the start of the operations of its Joint Venture in 2018, both have signed a new agreement to strengthen Gestamp’s position in China to reinforce its services to those manufacturers present in the Asian country, both locals and internationals.

In addition, Gestamp has made use of Auto Shanghai to display its capabilities and its product portfolio for electric vehicles. It is worthy of note the new developments in hot stamping that contributes to light weighting. Furthermore, the company has also displayed other materials solutions, such as in aluminum, and new products, like battery boxes.
