The Society of Automotive Technicians (STA for its name in Spanish, Sociedad de Técnicos de Automoción) has held for the thirteenth time the Formula Student Spain competition, which took place at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya from August 6 to 12, with the participation of 39 university teams from 11 different countries.
Gestamp, in addition to collaborating as a sponsor of Formula Student Spain since 2015, has also been a direct sponsor, and for the entire 2022-2023 season, of five teams: four from Spain (FS Bizkaia, BCN eMotorsport, ISC Racing Team and MAD Formula Team) and one from Poland (PUT Motorsport). Three of the sponsored teams participated in the event at the Montmeló circuit: ISC Racing Team from the Comillas University of Madrid, FS Bizkaia from the University of the Basque Country, and BCN eMotorSport from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia.
In addition to the accompaniment of a mentor for each group, part of the sponsorship has consisted of the loan of technologies, such as IoT platforms for digitization or advanced sensor technology for vehicle telemetry. For Gestamp, collaboration with universities is an optimal way to find talent that can be incorporated into our teams, both locally and globally.
Formula Student has positioned itself as the most important student motor racing competition in Europe.
Formula Student, in some countries known as Formula SAE, is an international competition that gives university students the opportunity to be part of a real professional experience in the automotive world. A unique opportunity for teams to design, create and build a single-seater racing car, combining hands-on engineering experience with interpersonal skills such as business planning and project management. Over the course of a week, the team and the car undergo various static and dynamic tests to ensure the quality and safety of the vehicle.
Static tests include the presentation of the business plan, cost and manufacturing, and design. As for the dynamic events, they include skidpad (figure-eight circuit), acceleration, autocross (one-kilometer circuit) and endurance (22-kilometer circuit).
The competitions consist, as usual, of different categories: electric vehicle, combustion vehicle, electric driverless vehicle and combustion driverless vehicle. It is worth noting the constant growth of the electric and driverless categories, with the trend indicating that more and more cars will be participating in these groups in the coming years.
Talent, innovation, and teamwork
In this edition of Formula Student Spain, more than 1,100 students from all over the world tested the car they have been working on for more than a year. A multidisciplinary project that allows them to learn, in theory and in practice, about a sector that is constantly innovating, such as the automotive industry. In addition, team members also have the opportunity to get a glimpse of the dynamics of working in a company, since the demands of the project make it necessary to divide responsibilities by areas and departments.
Talent, innovation and teamwork. Undoubtedly, three pillars that reflect what a Formula Student competition is and three pillars on which Gestamp relies daily to develop its projects. Therefore, we are very proud to have supported for another consecutive year a space that encourages and motivates young people to enter the automotive world.
