Gestamp opens its eighth Chinese plant, and foresees China as its third market by 2015

Gestamp, the world leader in the design, development and manufacture of metal components and assemblies for major automakers worldwide, celebrated the opening of its eighth facility in China, located in the South Eastern city of Dongguan (Guangdong province). Gestamp Dongguan has been built in just 30 weeks, marking a record figure for the Group in terms of rapid construction and launch of production.

The ceremony was chaired by Spanish Ambassador to China, Manuel Valencia, together with, Mr. Yuan Baocheng, Mayor of Dongguan City, Mr. Deng Haoquan, Secretary General from Dongguan city, Zhai Chongbi, Party Secretary from ECO Park, and Francisco J. Riberas, President and CEO of Gestamp.

Mr. Riberas announced that China will become Gestamp’s third largest market worldwide, only after Germany and Spain, by 2015, amounting for 10 percent of Gestamp´s global revenues next year. Gestamp CEO revealed as well expected revenues for 2014 will sum €6,250 million, an increase of 8% compared to 2013.

Since the beginning of its operations in the country, back in 2008, the growth of the company has increased steadily, and Gestamp turnover in China will be in 2014 over €500M, 26% more than the former year.

Gestamp development in China has combined an acquisitions’ strategy with a greenfield model, resulting in a headcount of 3,350 people (around 10% of its staff worldwide).

Understanding the outstanding relevance of the Chinese automotive market, Gestamp’s strategy in China is focused in accompanying its clients’ expansion and providing the state of the art technology for metal autoparts.

Therefore, Gestamp Chinese plants supply the most innovative processes in the field of steel transformation for the main global automotive manufacturers, namely PSA, Volkswagen, Renault-Nissan, Geely-Volvo, Ford, General Motors, BMW, Daimler and Jaguar Land Rover.
